Great to meet you! I just started a teaching gig at a Chicago charter school and have been scraping together as much information about teaching tip, cirriculum etc. etc. It's my first teaching gig so I know there is steep learning curve. Are you available for a chat about it all sometime? My friend Shea said you were the best person to talk with...Let me know!

Hey! I am actually free today and tomorrow. Do you want to talk about the radio project? I still need help with squirreling some money.. the school is not giving any, Vocalo will not provide any financial help and CPR is uninterested. Local college radio stations are not willing to give money to a project to buy recorders.
There might be a little ray of hope. Our school's student council may be able to invest not more than five-hundred dollars in the project. They give small seed grants to individuals and clubs.. but they won't be able to give anymore than that.
Let's talk soon!

Depressingly, the project hasn't kicked off yet. I haven't had much luck with local resources, after having talked with Chicago Public Radio and Vocalo.
Do you have any other suggestions for outside financing?

You are amazing! How did you all become radio mouths? I attended Emerson College a milliion years ago and had a show, but this is waaay beyond anything I ever did. My students are doing podcasts and would love, Love, LOVE radio. Teach me!
It's so great to see so many new members in the last few weeks... Keep up the great posts Jones!

Hey Jones! Well, we finally settled on a name. All the crazy, wacky options ultimately lost out to "City High Radio."
So, that's our new youth radio group! Could you remind me what I need to do next, please?
Seeing as how you're very connected with youth radio groups all over the country, I had a question about starting up my own.
I wanted to know whether it would be possible to start a youth-radio program at a high school, and find funding. The huge issue is that our school doesn't receive any additional funding for anything (this is Chicago Public Schools). However, the students are really bright, and it's a wonderful school -- we're the top school in the state.
I'd like to bring radio to the school, but I don't have money I can dish out on recorders, microphones and such from my own pocket. The grants I've looked so far have extensive waiting periods. I need to know whether I can find enough funding by mid-January.
What do you recommend? This is my last year at my high school, and I want this youth-radio group to be my magnum opus.
