My pick this this month is "Oakland Scenes: Snapshots of Community by Youth Radio".
This piece is a audio feast for the ears. The poet's deep voice and words he speaks is impossible to resist. The fusion of the poetry and the real life interviews makes the whole point of the piece even more powerful.
Because I live in the bay area, I guess stories like these stand out a little more than others because the rise in violence seems to steadily be growing as the years go by.
Violence and loss are two very major issues today, from the Bay Area and beyond. This piece touches on both these topics very well. The use of poetry verses a regular narrative makes this piece unique and different from any other story I've listened to about community violence and its results.
