The
National Federation of Community Broadcaster's conference has always supported youth media. This year, though our numbers were small,
our forces were strong: Hopi High (pictured above), Youth Radio (a.k.a. Youth Media International) and Terrascope Youth Radio all gathered in Portland, Oregon for two jam-packed days of training and workshops.
First day highlights included icebreakers with Hopi High producers Paul Quamahongnewa and Tarrah Tewanema, 10 million good ideas on how to fundraise from June Fox, and tips on feedback and promoting your work from Jones Franzel of GPRX. On day two producers enjoyed a full day workshop on storytelling in sound and pictures with Brett Myers and Rebecca Martin of Youth Radio. With recorders, cameras, and flip video recorders in hand, the group trekked off to the legendary Voodoo Donuts and Oregon Public Broadcasting (where they ran into none other than Jim Lehrer - how's that for media luck?):
