Listen Up! Was a summer course at the Center for Documentary Studies in the summer 2008 to connect and train mentors and leaders in all things sound & learning.
At my first Durham Bulls game, the bull out in left blew smoke out of his nostrils and flashed his eyes a diabolical red within a half inning of my arrival at the stadium. I think this bodes well. I'm an educator at an elementary school in Arlington, Virginia and a recent graduate of Audio Institute I and Audio for Educators at CDS at Duke who believes the nexus of education and media is where the magic lives. Last year, with the help of my co-pilots Renee and Fred (and our trusty Jr. Thunder Riders), we co-produced a weekly western themed webcast with our second graders called Radio Ranch. This year I'm hellbent on co-producing a youth radio program (to be called "What the World is Made Of") with my fstudents to gather and distribute stories from the students, parents, employees and community members in and around our school. Long live the amateur, long live the wireless!
